Team of the Week: how it works, and how to beat it

By Perfect Eleven Editorial · Published 4 August 2026 · Updated 4 August 2026

Every Premier League gameweek produces a definitive answer to a pub argument: who actually had the best week? Our data-ranked Team of the Week answers it with numbers instead of vibes — and the free prediction game lets you call it before it exists, scored on a public leaderboard.

Where the numbers come from

The XI is computed from the official Premier League player statistics feed (the same per-gameweek data that powers Fantasy Premier League) — goals, assists, clean sheets, saves, bonus and the rest, exactly as the league records them. We add no editorial opinion: if the data says a third-choice full-back had the week of his life, he makes the team.

Selection rules

When it's decided — and why it never changes

The team is computed when the league marks the gameweek finished and its stats are in, then frozen as a permanent snapshot. Late stat corrections by the league do not reopen a settled week — the frozen record is the record, which keeps every leaderboard result final. Postponed fixtures count in the gameweek the league schedules them into; in a double gameweek a player's points across both matches count in that single gameweek — big TOTW weeks for the clubs playing twice.

The prediction game

Before each gameweek's deadline (before the first kickoff), lock in your call: a formation, eleven players with at most three from one club, a captain, and a Manager of the Week. Then the real matches are played, the data XI is computed, and you get scored:

PointsFor
10Each player of yours who makes the actual XI (position doesn't need to match)
3Each player of yours who makes the official bench
+15Your captain is the Player of the Week
+10Your Manager of the Week club takes the award
TiebreakThe real points your matched players scored

There's a gameweek leaderboard and a season-long board that adds every week up. Blanks simply score zero — a partial XI still counts.

Free prediction game — no entry fee, no betting, no cash prizes or items of value. No account needed.
