Two players share top billing at Brighton and they could hardly be less alike: Carlos Baleba, an 83-rated holding midfielder from Cameroon, and Kaoru Mitoma, an 83-rated left winger from Japan. That tie is the club in one line. A power rating of 80 puts Brighton eleventh, and with a spread of just four points between the best man in the XI and the eleventh-best there is no hierarchy to hide behind. Two players at 82 or above, both of them 83, then a long flat run of useful footballers in a squad of 32.

Treat the coin-flip as a decision rather than a toss and take Mitoma. Brighton's strongest department is defensive midfield, two players averaging 81, which tells you the club manufactures that profile, and manufactured profiles turn up again elsewhere on the wheel.
